In this role you’ll make an impact by:
Safety Leadership & Culture
- Oversee safety activities during project execution in close collaboration with Safety Specialists, project managers, and user team safety coordinators.
- Drive a Safety Excellence culture by promoting visible safety leadership, engaging employees through safety committees and safety ambassadors, and supporting behavioral change.
- Share safety better practices across functions (engineering, production, maintenance, contractors) to support continuous improvement of safety performance and culture at the Taicang plant.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Implement and manage OHS safety programs at project level, including pre-job hazard assessments, high-risk task evaluations, and risk mitigation plans.
- Coordinate and participate in safety walks to inspect workplace conditions, equipment, and work practices, ensuring compliance with local regulations, Novonesis standards, and Taicang site procedures.
- Recommend protective measures and provide safety input during engineering design, equipment modifications, and facility improvements to ensure appropriate safeguards and regulatory compliance.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date safety records and documentation in line with Chinese legal requirements and Novonesis internal standards.
Incident Prevention & Investigation
- Support or lead in incident and near-miss investigations (including first aid cases and accidents) with line management to identify root causes and define effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Track, analyze, and follow up on safety observations and corrective actions within the project execution department to ensure timely closure and trend-based improvements.
- Issue activity suspension orders when work presents an immediate threat to health and safety or violates Novonesis high-risk protocols.
Training, Coordination & Crisis Support
- Partner with the OHS department to plan and deliver targeted safety training and awareness programs for project teams, contractors, and other stakeholders at the Taicang site.
- Coordinate safety teams and safety ambassadors to ensure consistent deployment of safety initiatives and alignment with plant-wide safety objectives.
- Support local and global hazards management and business continuity activities as they relate to safety management at the Taicang plant.
To succeed you must hold:
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related technical discipline.
- 3+ years’ experience in safety/EHS or project safety management in manufacturing, chemical, pharma, biotech, or similar industries, preferably involving CAPEX/engineering projects.
- Solid knowledge of risk assessment, high-risk work control, and incident investigation (root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions).
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with proven ability to promote safety culture and work effectively with operators, engineers, managers, and contractors.
- Willingness to spend substantial time on-site supporting project safety activities.
- Be fluent in written and oral English.
