JOB DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW
The R&D Packaging Specialist will be responsible for developing the best-in-class packaging capabilities to support the growth ambition for the China Wellbeing Collective Business – specifically in relation to new product development and new market entry and the establishment of an external ecosystem of technical partners/capabilities. The role will have cross functional interactions and coordination across Marketing, Supply chain, Product Development, SERS, Quality, Regulatory and external Contract labs & Material suppliers to ensure timely delivery of the objectives.
The role will be required to provide expertise related to packaging development and would cover a broad range of challenges. Developing packaging that delights consumers, while delivers functional requirements, furthers sustainability goals. Ensuring successful scaling up/production by leveraging external Contract labs and Collaborative manufacturers. This position will also serve as an R&D representative on cross-functional, China team.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. The jobholder will assist the co-ordination of packaging development projects and can lead assigned projects as packaging work stream leader.
2. Manage assigned primary and secondary packaging projects, with minimal guidance, working with Brand Development and the cross-functional project team, ensuring packaging is fit for purpose to meet the packaging brief, and delivered on time, in full.
3. Partners with Supply chain to assist in technical assessments of contract manufacturing sites.
4. Identify and work collaboratively with network of internal & external experts, component supplier/convertors, design agencies, testing labs, & contract manufacturers to develop activities related to Packaging Design & development.
5. Deliver packaging which not only meets the required quality and technical standards, but also delights the consumer and builds brand love, through using Unilever’s Packaging Excellence best practices.
6. Technical analysis of new packaging designs and provision of feedback to project teams with respect to design viability; also identify possible solutions to resolve technical problems, minimizing changes to the design intent.
7. To manage good technical data records – project data, specifications, test results.
8. Proactive identification of technical risks and recommendations to mitigate risks, to be brought to management.
9. To manage and deliver their own agreed work plan.
10. Evaluation and qualification of packaging components for their project portfolio using both established protocols, and where appropriate designing new ones.
11. Identify and implement potential cost saving activities across the category packaging portfolio.
12. Attendance of project meetings and deputise for manager when required.
13. Prepare and develop supplier technical briefs where required, working closely with suppliers.
14. To develop and test packaging in accordance with the One Unilever Packaging Process (1UPP).
15. To comply with the Unilever Code of Business Principles and all Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) and Quality Assurance (QA) policies, including the support of product claims, risk management and environmental awareness.
16. Support on packaging last mile delivery assessment and design.
17. Support on digitalization programs.
【任职要求】
KEY EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
1. Education - Master’s Degree with Packaging related Science and Technology Subjects, min 3 yrs packaging working experience.
2. Working knowledge of Flexibles, laminates & Paper/paperboard packaging in a Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) company, ideally with some packaging experience in Dietary supplement/OTC products, some experience on CLUBs pack design.
3. Good understanding of Packaging components, sustainable packaging solutions for consumer-friendly formats such as sachets,
4. Excellent written and oral communication skills in Chinese and English, ability to work well with others, and ability to plan and execute work independently with minimal supervision.
5. Ability to support projects with multiple external parties including contractors, research partners, manufacturing facilities, etc.
