Purpose of Job:
-To place a high emphasis on safety, resourcing and effective delivery of practical equipment to enable effective teaching and learning.
-To work closely with the teaching teams to ensure high standards are maintained.
-To support the development of science lessons.
-To place a high emphasis on safety, equipment maintenance, procurement and the effective delivery of resources and supplies in order to enable effective teaching and learning.
-To offer effective and efficient communication between the Science department and parents.
Overall Responsibilities
-Actively support the vision, ethos, culture and policies of the School
-Promote high standards in all aspects of school life, particularly i student progress

-Undertake form tutor work
Teaching and Learning
-Provide practical equipment and sources to teaching staff in a timely manner
-Give guidance and technical support teachers and students on the practical aspects of the curriculum
-Help to design, develop and maintain ecialist resources and/or long-term projects
-Contribute to the care of any plants and animals kept within the department
-Teaching support to Science department to ensure teaching quality
-Ensure safety, equipment maintenance, effective provision of teaching resources
-Assist smooth communication between parents and science department, work as culture and language bridge between the two
Health and Safety
-Promote and observe a healthy and safe working environment
-Conduct risk assessments for practical activities and provide health and safety advice to technical staff, teachers and students
-Conduct regular checks of chemicals,equipment, safety facilities and electricals, and perform any other safety checks necessary
-Remain up to date with all health and safety procedures and policies, attend relevant courses and ensure relevant literature is available
-Check that all equipment functions properly and is safe (within CLEAPSS guidelines) and liaise with relevant stakeholders
-Organise the storage of chemicals and equipment in appropriate secure conditions
-Arrange disposal of hazardous materials
Administration and Maintenance
-Ensure the laboratories and preparation rooms are fully stocked and have a high level of orderliness and cleanliness
-Manage equipment and stationery supplies, place orders and manage the delivery for all local items needed, ensuring sufficient supply is maintained
-Carry out regular routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and general administration tasks
-Liaise with maintenance staff, facility department and outside providers to ensure labs are clean and equipment works
-Track departmental expenditure in accordance with the School’s Policy
Requirements:
Education, training and qualifications
-Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in appropriate scientific subjects such as Chemistry, Biological or Physical Sciences; Chemistry is preferred
-A teaching certificate
Knowledge and experience
-Two to three years’ work experience in school/hospital/laboratory/industry practical setting, preferably in a secondary education environment
-Knowledge of Chemistry, Biology and Physics
-Knowledge of lab safety and working with practical equipment
-Able to prepare chemicals for practical lessons
-Knowledge of Microsoft Office, relevant software and databases
