China & East Asia Office Heriot-Watt university is seeking to appoint a Recruitment Manager. The post holder will be expected to make a major contribution to the delivery of the University’s ambitious China Strategy.
The post will be responsible for promoting Heriot-Watt University’s campuses in the UK through China & East Asia. Main duties of the role will be to promote the University to prospective students, work with the University’s agency and institute network in the region to reach the recruitment target that set up by the University. The post will include travels throughout China and internationally.

CHINA & EAST ASIA OFFICE
China & East Asia Office is based in Beijing and is part of the University’s Student Recruitment team. It is responsible for the University’s development in Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and South Korea. Since the Office established in 2008, it has been very successful in substantially increasing the number of students at Heriot-Watt University. This has been achieved through partnership development and recruitment in the open market in Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and South Korea.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE RECRUITMENT MANAGER
The Recruitment Manager will report to the Head of China & East Asia Office within the Student Recruitment team.
1. Assisting the Head of China & East Asia Office for the University’s agency network’s development in China.
2. Leading the recruitment strategy in open market for UK campuses in China and East Asia region.
3. Operational lead on managing and maintaining agency network within the region.
4. Responsible for recruiting students including but not limited from open market, international High Schools, direct recruitment from institutions and other appropriate market channels for UK campuses
5. Responsible for recruiting students not only for degree studies but as well as for the Programmes offered by the University’s Global College.
6. Maintaining and developing market for Pre-sessional English language programmes offered by Global College.
7. Enhancing the University’s agency network’s performance in China & East Asia through regular visits to agency offices to give presentations, conduct interviews and update the professional knowledge of agency staff relating to the University.
8. Coordinating with all stakeholders both at the University and in the market to enhance student recruitment numbers.
9. Supporting applicants and their advisers through the Admissions process by providing expert advice on issues such as application procedures, entry requirements, visa processes and living and studying at Heriot-Watt University.
10. Liaising with colleagues at the University to progress applications and ensure a high-quality service provided to partner agents and students in students’ studying journey through recruitment, admission etc.
11. Conducting market research, providing market intelligences to the University for evolution of recruitment strategy in line with market development and changes.
12. Lead day-to-day operations with recruitment agencies.
13. Maintaining and enhancing working relationships with all stakeholders in the region.
14. Coordinating with the Global Engagement Manager to assist recruitment for the University’s Dubai and Malaysia campuses as requested.
15. Coordinating with other member of staff in the China & East Asia Office in all aspects of activities for partnership development and marketing campaigns.
16. Assisting the Head of the China & East Asia Office to design and conduct marketing campaigns to promote the University.
17. Implementing other tasks assigned by the Head of the China & East Asia Office.
18. Deputize for the Head of the China & East Asia Office as required.
19. Frequent exposure to the market to maximize the brand exposure of the university.
20. Dealing with applications from open markets to maintain the quick turnaround time for applications.
SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
Essential:
1. At least two years or more experience in a role relating significantly to international student recruitment or marketing
2. Trustworthy and reliable at all times
3. Studying experience at degree level in an English-speaking country
4. Good understanding on both UK and China’s education and application systems
5. Fluency in English and Chinese language, both written and verbal
6. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to act as an ambassador for the University
7. Excellent communicator, problem solving and negotiating skills
8. Excellent team worker both in plan and implementation
9. Clear demonstration of enthusiasm and passion for the role and ability to show initiative
10. Excellent presentation skills
11. Computer literate with a good knowledge of databases
12. Able to travel throughout China and East Asia region independently for extended periods, maximum 3 weeks for one trip
