Purpose of Role
The Assistant Head of Academic (G10 – G12) is a member of the Secondary School Leadership Team and works in close collaboration with the Head of Secondary School in ensuring high-quality learning and teaching throughout the school, especially Grades 10-12. They will also work closely with subject group leads and University and Careers Counsellors to support students and teachers to maximise students’ attainment.
The Assistant Head of Academic (G10 – G12) will have the responsibility of ensuring the effective administration of the IB Diploma and A-Levels Programmes, under the umbrella of the International Advanced Diploma (IAD). In line with IBO requirements, the Assistant Head of Academic (G10 – G12) provides overall leadership for Pedagogy/Teaching and Learning in the Diploma Programme, and is responsible for overseeing all requirements, policies, procedures and practices for the IB Diploma Programme. In addition to this, in line with CIE, EdExcel, Pearson and AQA, the Assistant Head of Academic (G10 – G12) will have overall leadership for Pedagogy/Teaching and Learning in the Diploma Programme, and is responsible for overseeing all requirements, policies, procedures and practices for the A-Level Programme. The Assistant Head of Academic (G10 – G12) is also responsible for creating effective practices to monitor and support student learning across G11-12 and the G10 Pioneer Year programme.
As an outstanding teacher, the Assistant Head of Academic (G10 – G12) believes strongly in action research and is committed to participating in and leading professional learning and the sharing of best practise in a progressive bilingual education.
