General Summary:
- Managing Microwave Engineering Staff, ensuring performance is aligned with the business unit and engineering group objectives. Coach the junior Microwave engineers to improve their performance both soft and technical.
Duties and Responsibilities
Managerial Functions
- Contributes to BU Engineering strategic directions.
- Ensures execution of directives, initiatives, guidelines, etc. decided upon by BU Engineering Management by team members.
- Serves as facilitator between team members and BU Management, including Engineering, NPI, PLM, and Ops as well management of the local facility.
- Participates actively in the development, retention, and acquisition of team members including providing direct training in functional specialty and project management.
- Manage facility and human resource allocation and distribution, particularly in real time when feedback from Engineering Management is not available.
- Approve purchase requests, domestic travel requests, and PTO requests.
- Conduct Performance Management appraisals of direct reports.
- Deals with conflict management or other personnel related issues directly or by notifying HR and management.
Technical Functions
- Provide Training, guidance, counseling, and advice to team members in the fields of Microwave antenna design and project management.
- Facilitates the solution of team-related issues.
- Resolves technical problems in on-going projects either by direct participation or by requesting additional resources.
- Represents the Engineering Department in and Engineering Management in Customer meetings.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited engineering university. Master of Science in Engineering from an accredited engineering university is desirable.
- 15-20 years’ experience in the telecommunications industry, which includes progressively more responsible positions in the areas of product design, development and management. Experience in Microwave antenna design is highly desirable.
- Exceptional organizational leadership and control skills.
- Effective negotiating and risk management skills.
- Strong verbal, written, analytical and interpersonal skills.
Professional Requirements
- Five plus years of work experience in RF/Microwave Antenna design.
- Demonstrated capability to Manage Microwave/RF Antennas Projects
- Must possess good oral, written and presentational skills in English and Mandarin Chinese.
- Demonstrated capability of guiding and mentoring less experienced staff.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and meet the goals of the Business Unit and larger organization
- Proven track record of contacting, influencing and negotiating with both internal and external individuals on complex issues.
- Must be able to respond to inquiries and complaints of a highly complex nature with tact and diplomacy.
