JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking an Electrical Engineer
with a broad understanding of electrical engineering principles and deep expertise in power electronics and power converters, with a strong emphasis on wide bandgap devices (WBG) for solid-state transformers (SST). This
role focuses on researching and evaluating emerging technologies, monitoring industry trends, and building strategic relationships with companies and universities. The engineer will collaborate closely with Power Management BU
Product Line leaders to identify opportunities for innovation and integrate advanced solutions into Vertiv’s power products. Ideal candidates will combine technical depth with strategic vision to drive next-generation power conversion technologies that enhance efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.
Responsibilities
- Technology Scouting: Identify and evaluate emerging technologies and trends relevant to power conversion, inverter-based resources, solid state transformers, and wide bandgap devices.
- Small Scale Proof of Concept: Design and execute small-scale prototypes to validate technical feasibility and performance, including both modeling and simulation as well as hardware prototyping. Leverage relationships with universities and other companies to assist with prototype design, build, and test.
- Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, external partners, and academic institutions to accelerate technology adoption and knowledge sharing.
- Customer Focus: Align technology initiatives with customer needs and market requirements to deliver value-driven solutions.
- Modeling and Simulation: Develop and utilize modeling and simulation tools to predict system behavior and optimize designs.
- Documentation and Presentation: Prepare clear technical documentation and deliver educational presentations to design engineers, product offering managers, product line leaders.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree with at least 5 years experience or a Master's Degree with at least 2 years of experience.
- Proven understanding of 3-phase power systems.
- Excellent understanding of power electronic converters (rectifiers, inverters, dc/dc converters).
- Knowledgeable on wide bandgap devices and circuitry to drive these power electronics devices.
- Good understanding of grid connected inverter systems.
- Knowledgeable and competent with simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD, PSSE.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills including troubleshooting both hardware and software.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to work with unclear requirements when faced with a first-of-kind task or problem.
